It was the Bangalore airport this time!
These new airports are really fancy and also distracting. I usually sit in the lounge and read something or write my diary. However, this time I did neither. I simply decided to do some "window checking."
Till a few years back I always thought whenever I wore a wrist watch I would always be late. However, some how I got myself a Titan some 4 year back. I have been wearing this metallic band since 4 years now.
So I walked into the Shoppers stop outlet. I headed straight to the watch counter. There were these shiny, diamond studded things in display. Some I guess were in competition with the grandfather's clock that you get to see in exhibitions. Now, why would I want to wear that on my wrist??
Guess, the sales person understood that I am not one of his serious buyers. However, my hair colour probably distracted him (can't say attracted na). He was kind enough to let me try out a few fancy pieces and even went to the extent of answering some of my inane questions.
After 5 minutes and 10 watches down, he walked away. I thought he had had enough of my questions!! But I was pleasantly surprised, when he walked back. This time he had a tiny box in his hands. Not that I could see any real diamond jewelry in display. So I ask my self, "Now what is that he has to show me?"
He had a very special smile on his face. He invited me to another counter, got one of those satin cloths and laid the box. He then took a deep breath and went ahead and opened the box.
Behold!!! There was another wrist watch!! :-( Was I slightly disappointed. He understood my disappointment and immendiately asked me to try the watch. By now I was tired. But what was the harm in trying the eleventh watch??? It was a weightless silver polish wrist watch after all.
But it fitted well. Seeing my comfort, the sales man now took a deep breath. I knew something was coming. He said, "Mam, this watch is a special collection. The has .65c diamonds placed in the vertical lines on both the side of the dial. The base of the dial is mother of pearls. The glass covering the dial is the finest cut Swarovski crystal. And all this for just Rs 1,17,000/- only."
I laughed and simply extended my arm for him to take the watch off. I was now afraid to even touch it lest I damage it. I thanked him for letting me try it and moved to leave.
Just before I stepped out of the outlet, the salesma waled up to me and said, "Maybe not today, but I know someday you will buy it and wear it. Till then, have a nice flight back home!!"
Rs 1,17,000/- phew!!
